Busot

Busot is a traditional Spanish village built around the ruins of a 12th century Moorish castle. The centre of the town is typically Spanish with narrow winding streets and small shops almost hidden in amongst the townhouses.

The village and its surrounding area offer an enviable mixture of property types; from traditional town houses and fincas through to newly built apartments and villas.

If you’re looking for a typical Spanish village with a thriving international community and plenty of amenities then Busot has it all. English, Dutch, French and other nationalities live happily alongside their Spanish neighbours and experience the relaxed and healthy lifestyle for which Spain is renowned.

Busot offers an excellent range of amenities including; a health centre, pharmacy, local junior and infant school, bank, post office, pet shop, bakery, park, bars, restaurants and a variety of small shops.

The local people of Busot are very friendly and stepping into one of the Spanish bars in the town is like stepping back in time. As with any traditional Spanish village it pays to know a few Spanish phrases as not many of the local people speak English and the Spanish really appreciate it when foreigners make an effort to speak the language.

Although the town of Busot is relatively small, like many Spanish villages it has a ‘polideportivo’  or local sports centre where for a modest charge residents can use a number of sports facilities including; tennis courts, swimming pool and a football pitch. Tennis coaching, swimming lessons and football coaching is also available for adults and children together with dance classes and exercise classes.

The village also has a modern and impressive ‘casa de cultura’ in which clubs and societies meet, exhibitions and theatrical and musical events are staged and where foreign residents can attend Spanish classes.

Perhaps one of the most striking features of Busot is the rugged mountain range which provides a dramatic backdrop for the town. This mountain range is home to the famous ‘cuevas de canelobre’ or candelabra caves, the inner aspect of which has one of the highest vaults of any cave in Spain. Despite the often relentless heat outside, the caves maintain a near constant year-round temperature and house some interesting stalactites and stalagmites, many of which have been given names due to their shapes and colours. For more information about the caves visit our ‘Things to see & do in the area’ section.
